York hotel launches Eternal Law short break

Posted by William C on January 8th, 2012

THE Grange Hotel in York has launched a new short break package to coincide with new TV drama Eternal Law, the first episode of which was shown on ITV on Thursday.

The Eternal City Break, created by The Grange Hotel, on Bootham, aims to attract viewers who are expected to tune into the drama, by the writers of Life On Mars, in their millions.

It includes a one-day York Pass, which gives free admission to many of the attractions featured in Eternal Law, and an exclusive Locations Information Sheet, which highlights other films and TV series which have been shot in York.

Must admit that I recorded this and skipped past the interior shots. Some of the exterior ones were interesting. I spotted the water tower near Lindsay Avenue in Acomb. I think you have to give it a chance. The first episode was a little disappointing but they were attempting to introduce a whole cast of characters. If the show is a success it could offer a great shop window to the city and the thousands who work in the tourism industry. Nice free advert for the Grange and no newsworthy part to the story whatsoever. However, I agree with The MC: the programme was utter twaddle, poorly written, dreadfully acted and did York no favours whatsoever. I predict audiences will soon desert it and The Grange’s shameless attempt to cash in will blow up in their face. Nice free advert for the Grange and no newsworthy part to the story whatsoever. Don’t blame the hotel for cashing in, but non-Yorkies who have watched the show might have difficulty reconciling what they saw on TV with the reality of York – eg a market where there normally isn’t one, etc. A bit of tweaking to make York fit the requirements of the script? The programme was absolutely terrible.
I gave it enough chance staying for the whole hour. Total rubbish, really very very poor.
Like Grumpy Old Man says, can’t see The Grange doing well out of it. Heartbeat and Goathland it isn’t! The programme was absolutely terrible. I gave it enough chance staying for the whole hour. The first episode was dire. Seems to be suggesting the place was especially violent as well. Will there by people hitting each other (in the background) of every York night scene? I have to disagree with some of the comments above, the programme was dramatic and clearly true to life angels aside. The parts involving York police’s handling of firearms incidents where they first let a bloke doing time keep a hunting rifle then forget to remove it from the first shooting, allowing a teenage girl to walk down Coney street with it to fire into a courtroom before letting a lawyer take charge and send her father out into the line of fire whilst they hid was well researched and totally realistic. The best of luck to The Grange Hotel in their latest attempt to stimulate trade.
As for the millions of viewers well, ‘Eternal Law’ better pull something pretty spectacular out of the bag in episode 2 or people will soon be tuning back out. I so desperately wanted to like this, but even for a fantasy drama episode 1 was, unfortunately, completely sh1te. The best of luck to The Grange Hotel in their latest attempt to stimulate trade. I thought this was the best post for a long time. Let’s face it – North Yorkshire police are one of the worst forces in the country. Although they have woken up and decided to reclaim Exhibition Square for the decent people. Shame about the last twenty years though.
